Tim Yeaton – President and Chief Executive Officer
Tim brings 30 years of software and technology management experience to his role as President and CEO of Black Duck. Prior to joining Black Duck, Tim was Chief Marketing Officer at EqualLogic until its $1.4B acquisition by Dell in 2008, and as Dell’s Vice President of the Nashua (N.H.) Design Center, he led the integration of the two companies and managed Dell’s operations in the region. Prior to EqualLogic, Tim spent several years at Red Hat, the leading provider of open source software solutions, as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing & General Manager of Enterprise Products. At Red Hat, Tim was instrumental in expanding its business into the developer and middleware markets with acquisitions of JBoss and MetaMatrix, and built go-to-market partnerships with companies including IBM, HP, Dell, Sun and several other strategic partners as well. Tim was previously CEO of Avaki, a venture-backed data management software company that was acquired by Sybase. Before Avaki he was Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Server Products Division at Macromedia, via its acquisition of Allaire where he was previously Senior Vice President of Products. Tim spent the early part of his career at Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation, most recently as Vice President and General Manager of Compaq’s UNIX/Linux Software Division.
In addition to the Black Duck Board of Directors, Tim currently sits on the Board of Directors of the N.H. High Technology Council, Roger Williams University Board of Overseers, and Stonebridge Country Club. He was previously on the boards of Avaki Corporation, The Open Group, and the Open Software Foundation. Tim holds an M.B.A. from Babson College, and a B.S., summa cum laude, from Roger Williams University.
Tim was recently named one of the Most Influential People in the Open Source Industry, in a survey of executives conducted by Mindtouch.
Bill McQuaide – Executive Vice President of Products and Services
Bill has 20 years of technology experience and executive leadership spanning engineering, product management, marketing and business development. He comes to Black Duck after spending 10 years with RSA Security during which time the company experienced rapid growth. RSA Security was acquired by EMC Corporation in 2006. He most recently served as a Senior Vice President of the Enterprise Solutions Group and Corporate Development.
Bill’s previous experience includes four years at Hewlett-Packard, where he led the Product Management and Channel Development teams for the company’s Technical Systems Division. In prior positions, Bill worked for Data General, Stardent Computer and Apollo Computer, where he was instrumental in defining and launching successful hardware and software products.
Peter Vescuso – Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development
Peter brings over 20 years experience in marketing and executive management developing new markets and building brands. Prior to joining Black Duck Software, Peter was VP/GM of the Enterprise Business and VP of Marketing at Cantata Technology. Cantata was a leading provider of enabling communications technology formed in the acquisition of Brooktrout Technology by Excel Switching and was itself acquired by Dialogic in 2007.
Before Cantata Technology, Peter was Director of Marketing at Compaq Computer (before the acquisition by Hewlett-Packard) responsible for product marketing and market development in the Workstation Division. Before joining Compaq, he spent eight years in Hewlett-Packard’s Technical Systems Division in senior marketing, market development and strategic planning roles.
Peter earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the New York Institute of Technology and an M.S. degree at the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.
Jim Berets – Vice President of Product Management
Jim is responsible for the strategy, planning, and delivery of Black Duck’s complete product portfolio including its flagship products Black Duck Code Center and Protex, as well as the Black Duck KnowledgeBase. He has over 25 years of industry experience in product management, sales engineering and software development management.
Prior to joining Black Duck, as Principal of Beaver Brook Consulting, Jim consulted to technology-industry clients on product strategy and definition, offer development, market and competitive research, and customer acquisition. Previously, Jim was VP of Product Management at CO Space, a data center services company (acquired by Internap Network Services); Director, Sales Engineering, BBN Planet / GTE Internetworking, where he managed the company’s worldwide sales engineering team; and a Software Development Manager in BBN Technologies’ Distributed Systems Technology Group.
Jim earned an SBEE degree from MIT; an MSEE from the University of California, Berkeley; and a CSS in management from Harvard.
Phil Odence – Vice President of Business Development
Phil Odence is responsible for expanding Black Duck’s reach, image and product breadth by developing partnerships in the multi-source development ecosystem. He came to Black Duck from Empirix (formerly RSW Software and Hammer Technologies) a leader in carrier VoIP, contact center and Web application testing and monitoring. He served there as Vice President of Business Development successfully developing the firm’s alliance program, creating strategic partnerships, starting up new businesses and supporting M&A activities.
Prior to Empirix, Phil was a partner at High Performance Systems, a computer simulation modeling firm where he was responsible for consulting and partnerships with leading management consultancies, including McKinsey and A.T. Kearney. He began his career with Teradyne’s digital logic simulation group in several sales and marketing management roles. He has an AB in Engineering Science and an MS in System Simulation from Dartmouth College.
Timothy Kenny - Director of Marketing
Timothy brings over 20 years experience in marketing and communications working in a cross-section of industries bringing a high level of creativity and innovation to the marketing mix. Prior to joining Black Duck Software, Timothy provided marketing consulting services at a strategic planning and project management level with clients in such varied industries as defense, telecom, software, and technical communications and training. He is the former Director of Corporate Marketing at Brooktrout Technology a leading provider of enabling communications, overseeing all aspects of external, internal and partner marketing communications programs.
Before Brooktrout, Timothy was Director of Web Strategy and Planning at Bentley University proving a change agent for moving the University’s brand into the Business School for the Information Age. Before joining Bentley, he was the Manager of Marketing Communications at Information Mapping, Inc., a training and consulting firm in business and technical communications, focusing on lead generation and branding activities for the company in four vertical markets: financial services, hi-tech, government, and the process industries.
Timothy earned a B.S. degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State and Masters in Professional Writing from UMASS Dartmouth.
Eran Strod – Director of Product Marketing
As director of product marketing for Black Duck Software, Eran writes about the technology industry, creates enabling tools for sales, coordinates analyst relations and manages the team that produces Koders.com. He can often be seen poring over trend data mined from the Black Duck KnowledgeBase.
He has held various roles in engineering and product marketing with Motorola Computer Group, freescale Semiconductor, CSPI, and Data General. Before joining Black Duck, Eran was director of product marketing at Mercury Computer Systems and served on the board of directors of the VMEbus International Trade Association when Ex Ante patent disclosure provisions were formulated and adopted. Eran has also served as chair of the strategic marketing committee for the RapidIO Trade Assocation.
He holds a dual BA degree in Computer Science and Psychology from UC Santa Cruz and graduated from the Northeastern University High-Technology MBA program.
